World number one Novak Djokovic described winning a fourth Australian Open as incredible and thrilling.
The 25-year-old Serb beat Britain’s Andy Murray 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-2 to become the first man in 46 years to win three years running in Melbourne.
“I’m full of joy right now. It’s going to give me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season,” said Djokovic.

“Adding to that history part, winning it three times in a row, it’s incredible. It’s very thrilling.”
Djokovic, 25, credited his saving of three break points in the second game of the second set as the turning point of the match.

“He missed a few shots,” said the six-time Grand Slam champion.
“I managed to have that crucial hold. After that I felt just mentally a little bit lighter and more confident on the court than I did in the first hour or so.”
Murray, now a beaten finalist at Melbourne Park on three occasions, struggled with blisters from early in the third set and a rampant Djokovic took control.

The Serb said he had served better against Murray in the final than in any match against the Briton over the last two years.
“We both served well,” he said. “We were holding our service games quite comfortably.
“I tried to be more aggressive. So I went for my shots, especially in the third and fourth; came to the net quite often.

“I needed to be the one who dictates the play, and I’m really glad that I’ve played my best.”
When asked whether he was changing the way the sport was being played, Djokovic replied: “I’m 25 years old and I won six Grand Slams and have a lot of trophies. It’s amazing.
“I’m just trying to embrace this moment and enjoy it as much as I can and see where tomorrow brings me.”
