There will be no Pakistani participation in the upcoming Champions League T20 as the Faisalabad Wolves have been denied visas by the Indian government, reports said.

CNN-IBN reported government sources as saying that it is “not possible to provide necessary security arrangements, so visas are unlikely”.

The Wolves, winners of the domestic T20 competition in Pakistan, were to play in a qualifying group of four teams ahead of the main draw that begins on September 21 in Jaipur.

New Zealand’s Otago Volts, Kandurata Maroons of Sri Lanka and Sunrisers Hyderabad from the IPL are the other three qualifiers. Two of these four teams were to proceed to the main draw that consists of eight other teams from around the world. The Wolves are led by Misbah-ul-Haq, also the Pakistan captain.

“As a matter of abundant precautions taking into account security requirements, it was felt that at the current juncture, it would not be possible to provide necessary security arrangements. Therefore, it was advised that security necessary couldn’t be provided, and thus visas are unlikely to be issued,” a government official was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

The qualifying around which begins September 17 will proceed with three teams. “We will wait for a more couple of days and if they don’t get visas and clearances from the Indian government, we will go ahead without them,” a BCCI official had told the Indian Express on Tuesday.

“The home ministry has given no signal so far. In case the Faisalabad team doesn’t come, we will call a meeting to discuss it. Changes will be made but no new team will replace the Wolves.”
